The decision this workflow supports
A guest should know what to fix when a form cannot be submitted. A vague failure notice can lead to repeated attempts or an abandoned inquiry, especially when the guest has already written a detailed event question.
Put the review process in place
Identify the affected field and explain the needed correction in plain language. Preserve information that is already valid. Ask the maintainer to connect error text with the relevant field and provide a useful overall message when several corrections are needed.
Worked example for your team
A fictional visitor enters event details but omits the contact information needed for a reply. Submit the form and inspect what happens. The error should identify the missing contact and explain the correction while retaining the event information. Now correct that field and try again. If the form clears the whole inquiry or leaves the visitor unsure where the problem is, record the exact step for the maintainer. A successful repair means the visitor can recover from the mistake and reach an accurate receipt without re-entering unrelated details.
Sample wording to approve
“Please review the contact field highlighted below. We need a way for restaurant staff to respond. Your other inquiry details are still shown so you can correct this and try again.” This wording is a draft for the restaurant owner to approve before use.
Fields for the staff handoff
Staff need error condition, guest-facing wording, affected field, retained information, and maintainer. Mark uncertain details explicitly and keep the requested action separate from anything restaurant staff have already confirmed.
Acceptance tests before use
An invalid contact produces a specific message. Valid event details remain after correction. The error is understandable without relying on color alone. Record the observed result, assign any mismatch, and repeat the affected scenario after correction.
